On March 13, 2025 SchoolFood4Change will pay a visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg to celebrate International School Meals Day, the global awareness day that underscores the vital role of nutritious school meals in fostering better education, healthier communities, and a more sustainable food system.

Upon invitation from Dario Nardella, Member of the European Parliament and Coordinator for the S&D on Agriculture, a school class from the Markgräfler Gymnasium (Müllheim, Germany), together with their teachers and a group of parents, will take the opportunity to present the Petition for Free Healthy School Meals for all Children to Members of the European Parliament and the Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare, Olivér Várhelyi.

The children will be supported on site by the Mayor of Strasbourg (France), Jeanne Barseghian, and a delegation of representatives from ICLEI Europe and IFOAM Organics Europe, who will present the Buy Better FoodManifesto for the Establishment of Minimum Mandatory Criteria for Public Canteens across the EU’ to the politicians, emphasizing the need for stronger policies that guarantee all children access to high-quality, nutritious meals in schools across Europe.

This important meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss the future of food policies with several high-level policy makers. The gathering represents an important step towards advocating for sustainable food systems, connecting policy discussions with real-life initiatives, and reinforcing the essential link between food, health, and education.
