Climate Chance Europe Africa Summit 2025: Enhancing urban-rural linkages for resilient food systems

In recent years, increasing climate challenges have highlighted how important it is to rethink food systems in order to create a just and more sustainable future. With 70% of the world’s food production consumed in cities, and 70% of food-insecure people living in urban or peri-urban areas, cities hold great potential in transitioning from hotspots of food-related challenges to powerful agents of food systems transformation.
This session will explore how cities can leverage their influence to advance resilient food systems, guided by CityFood’s Triple H approach - Healthy People, Healthy Landscape, and Healthy Climate. It will bring along various stakeholders to showcase best practices, policy innovations, and concrete solutions that help build resilient urban food systems and enhance urban-rural linkages.
The session will conclude with the official launch of ICLEI’sCityFood Market Handbook for Healthy and Resilient Cities, diving into the key role food markets play in connecting people and the food system within cities and enhancing urban food security.
