Global coalition to call for a food systems approach in the Sharm el-Sheikh Joint Work

UNFCCC submission

The 27th United Nations Conference of the Parties to the Climate Change Convention was a decisive moment for implementation of climate action on agriculture and food. The Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture came to a decision, and a Joint Work Program of the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism was launched: the Sharm el-Sheikh Joint work on implementation of climate action on agriculture and food security.

In the framework of this new programme, organisations were invited to submit views on the elements of the joint work, including views on topics for the workshops to be held in June 2023.

Building on the joint letter to negotiators and ministers working on the Koronivia joint work on agriculture published during COP27, a global coalition of 50+ organisations - including ICLEI - has called on the new Sharm el-Sheikh Joint Work to adopt a food systems approach, including addressing nature positive food production, healthy and sustainable diets and nutrition, as well as food loss and waste.
