Farm to Fork procurement for resilient food regions

Brussels, Belgium

EU Regions

This 20th Anniversary high-level workshop co-organised by ICLEI Europe and the European Committee of the Regions calls for a minimum standard for public canteens, and in particular for healthy school meals and food education for every child in every school in Europe. Join the campaign and sign the petition ''Small plate, big impact: A healthy meal for every child in every EU School'.

This session will show the potential of public canteens, and in particular schools, as catalysts for sustainable food system transformation within the EU's Farm-to-Fork Strategy.

As part of the session, the Buy Better Food initiative will hand-over a manifesto following an EU-wide petition  'Small plate, big impact: A healthy meal for every child in every EU School'. The petition is inviting citizens and cities to sign up for surging EU and national policy makers to implement sustainable school meals for the implementation of the EU Farm to Fork strategy.

Speakers include:

  • Arno Kompatscher - President South Tyrol, Member of CoR
  • Alexandra Nikolakopoulou, Head of Unit - Farm to Fork Strategy, DG SANTE.
  • Tunç Soyer - Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Turkey, and ICLEI Global Executive Committee Member
  • Sarah Wiener - Member of the European Parliament
  • Peter Defranceschi - Head Brussels Office / Global Food Program ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability

This session in hybrid format is also open for onsite participation.

The event will notably show the first ever cartoon on farm-to-fork sustainable public procurement, which highlights the importance of a multi-stakeholders approach in promoting inclusive, healthy, and sustainable food procurement processes from farm to fork.
