Cities shape the future of food markets
To mark the launch of our new CityFood Market Handbook for Healthy and Resilient Cities, we invited cities from around the world to share a glimpse into their food markets in action. These examples are part of 16 real-world case studies featured in the Handbook, spanning cities across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Each one highlights the challenges, successes, and opportunities involved in transforming urban food markets.
Developed by ICLEI in partnership with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) and the World Farmers Markets Coalition, the Handbook presents the CityFood Market Action Framework—a structured approach to creating healthier, more resilient urban food systems.
Watch the video to discover how Pemba (Mozambique), Cleveland (USA), Curitiba (Brazil), and other cities are transforming their local food markets. Download the Handbook and start rethinking your city’s food markets today.
